Erasmus+
The Erasmus program is a European Union program that encourages cooperation between higher education institutions. It provides financial support for higher education institutions to develop and implement joint projects and to exchange students and staff for short periods of time. The aim of the program is to improve the quality of higher education in Europe and to strengthen its European dimension. The Erasmus program seeks to achieve this objective by promoting international cooperation between universities; facilitating mutual exchange of students across Europe; and contributing to the academic recognition and transparency of studies and degrees obtained in participating countries. Graduates in Europe, who receive higher quality higher education, will be better equipped and more responsive to the expectations of the business world.
The program serves to break down prejudices among European peoples through the mobility opportunities it offers in higher education circles. Since 1987, more than 1.5 million higher education students have spent part of their academic life in another European country through the Erasmus program, gaining the opportunity to get to know the people and culture of that country. The program aims to have 3 million students participate in the Erasmus program by 2012.
